Inquiry website wins national award The Bristol Royal Infirmary Inquiry website has been placed first in a national communications competition. It won the best website class in the NHS Magazine Communicating Health Awards 2000. The class was for the most informative, creative and easy to use site. The judges said: "The BRI Inquiry website is a clear winner, the sheer scale of the task plus the sensitivity of the subject is extremely well handled. They said: "This kind of in-depth website allows a large audience to follow a complex case. Navigation of such a large volume of material is made a lot easier by an intuitive and easy-to-follow lay-out." The website has now had more than 750,000 hits since March last year. The Inquiry used the latest information technology available to allow as many people as possible to follow its work. Inquiry Chairman Professor Ian Kennedy said: "We used innovative technology during the oral hearings which allowed us to involve everyone and make the Inquiry accessible. We were able to handle, and display, large amounts of information and the technology also saved public money by cutting the hearing time required by an estimated third." Professor Kennedy said: "The Inquiry website has allowed us to publish information and evidence as we proceed, helping us to work in public and giving people access so that they can follow what we are doing, as well as giving them an electronic feedback option on the website so that they can give us their thoughts and views and play an active role." The NHS Magazine Communicating Health Awards are now in their fourth year. This year there were over 300 entries in 14 categories. The awards were presented at the annual national conference of the Association of Healthcare Communicators.
